“Gut-microbiome and the influence on stroke recovery via the immune system: facts and outlook for clinical relevance and research”
Acute Stroke and Microbiome – Dr. Corinne Benakis
Dr. Corinne Benakis, from the Munich University team, carried out research on the mouse model and what happens when, during an acute stroke, the microbiome is influenced in the acute period of this episode? As the stroke damage to the brain is basically a type of inflammation, it was found that a microbiome pattern which influences inflammation can be beneficial in regards to the later stroke recovery results. It will be fascinating to follow up on this research, as it will be interesting to see if the transfer to clinical reality will result in it working with human stroke patients as well.
